Understanding Collective Cognitive Convergence
نویسندگان
چکیده
When a set of people interact frequently with one another, they often grow to think more and more along the same lines, a phenomenon we call “collective cognitive convergence” (C). We discuss instances of C and why it is advantageous or disadvantageous; review previous work in sociology, computational social science, and evolutionary biology that sheds light on C; define a computational model for the convergence process and quantitative metrics that can be used to study it; report on experiments with this model and metric; and suggest how the insights from this model can inspire techniques for managing C 3 .

Cognitive Feedback in GDSS: Improving Control and Convergence
Cognitive feedback in group decision making is information that provides decision makers with a better understanding of their own decision processes and that of the other group members. It appears to be an effective aid in group decision making. Although it has been suggested as a potential feature of group decision support systems (GDSS), tittle research has examined its use and impact. This a...
متن کاملAn Emergentist Account of Collective Cognition in Collaborative Problem Solving
As a first step toward an emergentist theory of collective cognition in collaborative problem solving, we present a proto-theoretical account of how one might conceive and model the intersubjective processes that organize collective cognition into one or another—convergent, divergent, or tensive—cognitive regime. To explore the sufficiency of our emergentist proposal we instantiate a minimalist...

متن کاملOrganizational culture in multiagent systems: metaphorical contributions to a discussion
The general goal of this research is to study the relationships between individual and social cognition (e.g., organizational culture development), an approach to the micro-macro link in social and cognitive sciences [Sawyer, 2003] [Schillo, 2000]. More specifically, this work aims to represent, in a multiagent system, how does organizational knowledge changes according to individual’s characte...
متن کاملEvolutionary perspectives on collective decision making: Studying the implications of diversity and social network structure with agent-based simulations
Collective, especially group-based, managerial decision making is crucial in organizations. Using an evolutionary theory approach to collective decision making, agent-based simulations were conducted to investigate how collective decision making would be affected by the agents’ diversity in problem understanding and/or behavior in discussion, as well as by their social network structure. Simula...
